Pekingese wins top prize at America's Westminster Kennel Club dog show
Pekingese Wins "Best in Show" at the 136th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show
Malachy, a four-year-old Pekingese was named top dog at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show Tuesday night. Last year, Malachy made it to the final round but ultimately lost to Hickory, a Scottish Deerhound.
Malachy won in the Toy category, but has also won 115 other Best in Show titles at other events throughout her life. Malachy's owner, David Fitzpatrick is a well-known handler who specializes in the Pekingese breed. This is the first time a Pekingese has won the event since 1990.
Malachy defeated a Dalmatian, German shepherd, a Doberman pinscher, an Irish setter, a Kerry blue terrier and a wire-haired dachshund.
