Muller Light yoghurts aren't syn free on Slimming World anymore
It's safe to say all hell has broken loose in the Slimming World universe, after the diet-plan giant announced this week that Muller Light yoghurts will soon no longer be regarded as a syn free dessert.
Slimming World follows a fairly simple plan: some foods are regarded as 'free' and you can eat as much of these as you like. Others are deemed 'healthy extras', and you're required to eat these daily to make sure your body gets all the vitamins and fibre it needs. Then there are syns - which tend to be 'treat' foods and alcohol. Slimmers are allowed up to 15 syns a day, with popular treats being ranked by how many syns they contain in order for users to keep track of how much they're allowed to eat.
For many Slimming World users, Muller Light Fat Free yogurts were the ideal dessert to satisfy a sweet tooth because they contained no syns. A modern day miracle, you might say.
But for the Muller Light disciples out there, the rug is about to be pulled from under their feet, as Slimming World has revealed the yogurts will now be one syn each. The devastating update meaning slimmers will have to limit their consumption if they want to stay within the bounds of the optimised eating plan.
Slimming World groups around the country recently emailed their members to deliver the news, and needless to say, it went down like a sack of shit:
I’m not being dramatic or anything, but finding out that Muller Lights are no longer syn free on Slimming World has actually destroyed my soul— Rebecca Magill (@hessooriginal) September 17, 2019
Over my dead body will I syn a Muller light! They're only tolerable anyway defo not worth a syn and I've still managed to lose 3 and a half stone eating about 6 a day 🤷🏼♀️😡 sorry I think you're playing a dangerous game here. @SlimmingWorld— Charl (@LottieRMN) September 17, 2019
Yeah, they're not impressed.
But Muller Lights weren't the only syn free food to get the chop. While reviewing its Food Optimising plan, Slimming World also removed a few other foods from its syn free list after realising that some users were eating them in large quantities. They are:
Tinned pasta shapes in tomato sauce- all varieties now 0.5 Syns per 100g
Instant mashed potato- all varieties now 3.5 Syns per 100g
Flavoured Danone Activia 0 per cent fat- a 125g pot is 1 Syn
In a statement about the change of plan, a Slimming World spokesperson said: "Our Nutrition team routinely review our Food Optimising eating plan to ensure it’s up to date, in line with the latest guidance, and to take into account feedback from our 5,000 Consultants and 900,000 Slimming World members.
"As part of this process, we’ve been looking at how to give our vegan members more choice, and we’re delighted that a number of vegan foods, including canned jackfruit and plain and unsmoked seitan, can now be enjoyed freely by slimmers following our plan.
"In addition, a number of products – fat-free flavoured yogurts, tinned pasta shapes in tomato sauce and instant mashed potato – that were previously Free on our plan, meaning they could be eaten without weighing, counting or measuring, will now have a small Syn value. This is because some of these foods are often eaten in large amounts, as a 'snack' rather than being enjoyed as part of a meal, or because they’re less satisfying than alternatives, such as mashed potato made with fresh potatoes.
