Body Language Expert analysis touching moments in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Wedding
Body Language Experts Analyze Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Official Engagement Photos
After taking a brief —verybrief — step away from the spotlight, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are back. And this time they're wearing their hearts on their designer sleeves.
All you need is one glimpse of their official engagement photos and it's obvious that these two can't get enough of each other. Sweet smiles and sultry eyes are on full display — along with Meghan's stunning couture gown. And even though these photos are posed, there are still new ways see what Prince Harry and Meghan's natural intimacy says about them as a couple.
"The great thing about these pictures in particular is that they're consistent with what we have seen previously — they're always tangled up with one another and being openly romantic," Traci Brown, body language expert and author ofPersuasion Point: Body Language and Speech for Influence, told GoodHousekeeping.com. It's true: These photos show the same level of affection (with slightly more PDA) as their engagement announcement, first interview, and first royal engagement.
It's apparent that Meghan is more outwardly affectionate. She's clutching onto Harry's harm and grabbing hold of his hand. "This shows Meghan's need for connection, and this isn't a bad thing," says Brown. "If it's too clingy, so be it — Harry doesn't seem to mind!"
In the first shot, Meghan's hand is on top of Harry's. In most instances, this insinuates dominance or a need for control. Here, however, it's likely that Meghan was instructed to show off her diamond — and we can see why. "Here, Prince Harry uses his legs as a shield around his lady and sends a silent message that he'll protect her from the world," says Cobb.
Next, the couple cranked up the heat with an up close and personal shot. "Meghan is touching Prince Harry's chin, which signifies an emotional closeness that you'd expect between lovers," Cobb explained. More significantly, they both have their eyes shut. "With their eyes closed, they're blocking out the world and enjoying their special moment," she added.
Last but not least, this candid photo tells us even more about the couple (no complaints). "By holding his arm and having interlacing fingers, Meghan is seizing the opportunity to draw Prince Harry closer to her," Cobb said. By nodding his head slightly, Prince Harry is also showing a sense of vulnerability to his soon-to-be wife. "By leaning toward Meghan as they walk, Prince Harry is silently saying that she's his support."
There's a stark difference between these lovey-dovey photos and the engagement photos of Prince William and Kate Middleton from a few years back. Harry and Meghan let their love for one another show in each movement, gesture, and glance. William and Kate, on the other hand, had more formality in their photos with straight postures and limited intimacy.
There's no way around it — guard up or down — these two couples are equally adorable.
