8 effective ways to clean a dirty glass ceramic stove

Ceramic hob surfaces are very comfortable. Compared to cast iron burners, a ceramic plate saves more energy and requires less effort to clean - at least in theory. After some time of use, stains, stains, grease and much more remain on any glass-ceramic plate. The situation is aggravated by the fact that you need to choose a special tool for cleaning such a plate.

The product industry offers a huge selection of cleaning products for glass-ceramic surfaces. However, their significant drawback is the high cost. The good news is that you can just as well use ordinary household tools! Here are 8 effective ways to help restore your stove to its former beauty.

1. Make sure the stove is still warm

The first and most simple advice - start cleaning immediately after cooking! The most effective way is to clean the glass-ceramic surface while it is still warm.This will prevent small stains from turning into hardened and difficult to remove stains.

All you need is a glass cleaner and a soft rag. A similar effect can be achieved if you mix about 200 grams. water, the same amount of white spirit (solvent Stoddard) and 2 hours l. apple cider vinegar. Regular lemon juice will help to get rid of scale (maybe half a lemon is enough), which should then be wiped gently with a damp soft cloth.

2. Burnt spots (not old)

Chose a pot too small to cook pasta? Or did the neighbors ring the doorbell at the wrong time? Whatever the reason for the “runaway” of food, the burned spots can be eliminated with the help of the following trick.

You will need:

  • vinegar;
  • baking powder;
  • dishwashing liquid;
  • towel.

Spread the vinegar evenly over the hob, sprinkle baking powder on top (it will need much more than vinegar). Dip a towel in hot water with dishwashing liquid added to it and place the towel on a dirty glass-ceramic stove. You can leave the towel for a few minutes or, if you have time, for the whole night. At the end, remove the towel and simply wipe the stove with a soft, clean cloth.

3. Burnt stains (old)

If there are spots on the stove that do not want to be cleaned, use a small trick - pour out quite a bit of water on the surface. Usually the edges of the glass-ceramic plate are slightly raised - this will allow you to create a very thin layer of water. Heat the water and then leave it to cool. As soon as the water film has cooled down, take a special glass-ceramic scraper and start cleaning the old burnt spots.

4. Complete cleansing

For this method you will need special tablets for the dishwasher. They contain substances that can effectively cope with grease and stains even at low water temperatures. Dissolve one tablet in a bowl with a couple of drops of water. Spread the paste in the end, evenly over the dirty glass-ceramic stove, leave for a couple of hours. To prevent the paste from getting wet, you can put a damp soft cloth on top of it. At the end, the stains are easily rubbed off with a simple paper towel.

5. Steel wool (minimum fiber thickness)

Even with careful use of the slab, scratches may accumulate on the glass-ceramic surface, in which food crumbs and grease accumulate.If the scratches are small, you can polish them with toothpaste and cotton cloth. A more effective solution is to use special ultrafine steel wool. It is just designed for polishing glass-ceramic surface!

6. Change the color of the plate

Over time, the beautiful black glass-ceramic surface fades. There are a lot of reasons for that: these are mostly scratches and notches left by the dishes. But also the plate can burn out over time. These types of stains can be eliminated with chemical mineral turpentine, gasoline or white spirit. Wipe all visible stains with a cloth and a selected agent. However, make sure that no liquid gets on the contacts of the plate.

7. Pollution Prevention

It is much easier to prevent stains and dirt than to remove them. Professional tools for cleaning glass-ceramic surfaces contain glycerin, which facilitates further cleaning. But you could just as well use petroleum jelly or plain baby oil. After cleaning the surface, apply a very thin layer of Vaseline on the stove and rub it with a cloth.This will add shine to the glass-ceramic stove and facilitate future cleaning. The likelihood of severe contaminants will be minimized.

8. Special cases

Finally, we present two unpleasant examples of pollution, which can also be dealt with independently. Sugar, heated on the glass ceramic, instantly caramelized. As a result, it hardens and tightly adheres to the surface. When you clean such contamination, you can accidentally scratch the slab. That is why you should always have a special scraper on hand that needs to remove liquid sugar as quickly as you can.

The same applies to melted plastic that has fallen on a hot surface. If the plastic is frozen, turn the stove on to the lowest temperature, melt it and quickly clean it with a scraper.
